Every Family Has A Story, Here's Ours!
Where We Started...
Our church started in the spring of 1923. It split from First Baptist Church, which was located on the corner of Elm & Oak Street, in Sand Springs, OK. Initially, we met in the homes of members-- specifically Deacon H.H. Hatter, who resided at 34 Oak Street at the time. It wasn't long before our members purchased a new site. The properties were once owned by Mr. William Garrett, who operated a business called Over The Top. As a congregation we then purchased a tent, which was placed on the 2 lots--at the time was South Section Line, 127 Morrow Road. Our then members worked diligently to establish a basement Edifice--Services were held here from 1923-1935. Upon soliciting from businesses and friends, and literally giving their own time and money, our members were able to complete the basement church! The 1st Pastor of our congregation was Rev. Barber, of Muskogee County. Between 1935 and 1991, 9 Pastors were called to lead.
...Where We Are Today
In June 1991, Rev. Roosevelt Gildon Jr. was called to become Pastor, and was installed in September alongside his wife, Lady Algerita Gildon. In 1999, after 76 years in the "old building", Pastor & First Lady Gildon were able to lead the congregation to purchase a new lot where our current building stands at 123 W. Morrow Road. Our church continues to be blessed through their leadership through some of the toughest times such as eminent domain. In 2006, Pastor Gildon was inspired by God for our church to stay and not sell out for a mini mall. With God, our church conquered! God constantly grows us through redevelopments and we are still standing on Sand Springs for growth within the community...COME, JOIN, AND GROW WITH US!
